Baby
Bunny Instructions
(also for the Baby Bear and Baby Kitty)
These
instructions were written for the Pfaff, but these techniques work with all machines.
For each baby bunny you will need two pieces of stretch velour 8 inches wide and 9
inches long, black thread, thread to match velour, 10-inches of 1/4-inch wide ribbon and
polyester stuffing. A quarter yard of velour will make 2 or 3 bunnies, depending on
fabric width. Cotton velour can be dyed to achieve the desired colors.
Use black thread in the bobbin and needle. Place a layer of water-soluble
stabilizer, velour and water-soluble stabilizer in the 120 mm hoop, with the velour nap
side up, with the nap running toward the hoop screw. Use normal embroidering tension
settings. Select Babybnny.pcs. Sew the first color. Remove hoop from sewing
machine, but do not unhoop the fabric. Clip jump stitches. Cut the top layer
of stabilizer just inside the hoop all the way around.
Carefully remove the top
layer of stabilizer from the embroidery. Place the second piece of velour face down
on the hoop, with the nap running toward the hoop screw. Replace the piece of
stabilizer. Pin through all four layers in each corner.
Use thread to match the
velour in the bobbin and needle. Set upper tension as for sewing.
Stitch the second color. The first stitches are basting to secure the layers.
Hold the stabilizer smooth as the basting stitches are sewn, removing each pin as the
needle approaches. Additional basting stitches are sewn, then the seams.
When the sewing is complete,
remove all basting stitches. Pull away the stabilizer from both sides.
Save scraps of water-soluble stabilizer in a zipper bag. These can be dissolved in
water and used as a liquid stabilizer on another project.
Trim around the bunny
leaving a 1/8-inch seam allowance. In the area between the arm and face, use Fray
Check or similar product to strengthen the seams. When dry, clip corners, being
careful to center your cut between the arm and head on each side.
Turn the bunny right side
out, using the blunt end of a crochet hook for the ears. Sew across the base of each
ear, back and forth in 4 continuous passes, bunching up the ear against the needle as you
sew.
Stuff with polyester
fibers. Sew closed at the bottom. Tie ribbon around the neck.
For a
child under three, do not use ribbon.
Use any lightweight fabric
with some stretch and a bit of nap such as
stretch terry, thin polar fleece or sweatshirt knit turned inside out.

with a pdf file of these instructions. The paper pattern for the mommy
bunny comes with printed instructions for the babies and the mommy.
